Holding Hands

Over the years playing rugby, I’ve tried giving things up in order to give the best performance that I could. I gave up drinking a lot of times but it never really helped since I really only drink after practice and games. Plus all the guys just kind of made fun of me which didn’t bother me but it didn’t help me win. Another time I gave up playing on one team to help the other and ended up winning championships on neither so that was a waste. I gave up on stagnating progress once, by playing on the provincial team and that didn’t help either.

So I’m going to give up the one thing I haven’t tried yet. I’m going celibate for the season. I’ll save some of you the trip to dictionary.com and let you know that that means no sex until the season’s over. In fact if you see me doing anything more than holding hands with a girl after May 1St I will buy you a beer. Now obviously I’m getting on in years and thinking about settling down so the one exception I’ll make is if I meet the woman of my dreams and honestly think I’m going to marry her someday soon. If that happens then you should congratulate her… I mean me on finding the perfect woman.

Now I’ve never been one to hold out on my friends and team-mates so I invite you all to go ahead and go celibate for the season as well. Now I don’t want to discriminate but this offer doesn’t apply to the married guys on the team. The way I figure it you guys probably haven’t had recreational sex since about two weeks after you tied the knot and probably haven’t even had productive sex since the month in which your last child was conceived, I’m just guessing here but I’m right aren’t I?

bonds and stuff

I just started the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and I love doing it. I’m learning all kinds of details about things and hopefully writing about them here will help me to retain the information for my test in June.

I now know the difference between a debenture and a bond in fact I now know what a debenture is. While a bond is an investment instrument that allows you to loan an institution like, government or a corporation, money and is guaranteed by a specific asset a debenture is the same thing but guaranteed by nothing except the credit rating of the issuer.

The tough thing about this course is that I have no idea about amounts. I read that a bond issues interest and matures in a certain period of time and I know it makes about 3% but when it comes to other things like options (next week’s topic) I have no idea how much they cost.

So I’m going to try a little experiment. I’m going to see what the market is like for debentures. I’m on the internet and readily available to millions of people so I’m making an offer to any investor out there.

10,000$ Ovett debentures. The cost is 9,000$ it will mature in three years and in addition will pay interest of 600$ a year (300$ payments every six months). This represents a 31% return on the investment. I can’t think of any reason to pass them up and you better act soon because only 30 will be issued and as already mentioned millions of people are on the internet.

Some investors need the security of a bond, they want to know if anything happens they will at least end up with some kind of asset, for that investor we have a bond.

100,000$ Ovett bond. The cost is 70,000$ it is a ten year bond and purchasers are entitled to 500$ interest payments yearly. There is only one available as I am the specific asset guaranteeing the bond. Act quickly as mentioned above there are millions of people on the internet. This bond is callable and although the secondary market is unlikely to trade this bond I’m just going to put it out there, that it can’t be stripped down.

So drop a comment in the box if you want to buy the bond that pays more.

16 to 25

I scrapped my car. I didn’t get into an accident I just didn’t feel like pouring more money into a car that I didn’t like so I scrapped it. I know, I know so what? Well it’s forced to re-evaluate principles that I clung dearly to once. When I was 16 I would never imagine I would be doing the following at 25.

Running for public transit- This is something I did on a regular basis when I was a kid. In Laval the busses seem to pass every second Tuesday after the holidays depending on the weather.

Lying to women to get them to sleep with me- It’s not what you think, mostly it’s “those are just rumours” and a lot of “it’s not that big.”

Vying for a spot on my rugby team- Ok to be honest I didn’t think I’d be playing rugby when I was 25 but had I thought about I’m sure I would have expected to be a superstar who could choose his position, not the case.

Living with my parents- I’m not sure how I felt about this when I was a kid but I’m sure I don’t know how I feel about it now. I don’t know if I’d want to move out before I found my wife. Jury is still out on this one.

Not reading great books. I no longer read famous old authors and it’s freaking me out man. I had read “Of Mice and Men” by grade seven and had even made a stab at “The Invisible Man,” I’m not sure what’s up but my mind may or may not be slowly turning into Jello.

Not independently wealthy and no plan to be before I’m 35. Can you believe that, 35 before I have a hope of being independently wealthy. It might as well be forever. Just kidding I actually feel like it will barely be enough time. “[Because] at my back I always hear/ Time's winged chariot hurrying near” words courtesy Andrew Marvell.
