Beaconsfield Undefeated Once Again

It would be hard to imagine a team training harder for a game. We had a week off, and at the time that it is sometimes hardest for a team to dig in and get it done, BRFC put in the hours and the effort to prepare for the game against Sherbrooke. The results came with the effort and we blanked a team that we were almost even against at the end of last season.

Although we did not play a perfect game our fly-half controlled the territory well in the face of a good opposite fly-half and fullback. We played to the corners on multiple phases and at times found points in the unlikeliest of places.

In very hot weather the forwards were great in the scrums (with no help from Quinn) which led to good runs off back row plays thanks in part to alert wingers. Line-outs also seemed to go well and Cory did a good job challenging Sherbrooke’s thrower.

Our newest funny talker Paul performed his tackling duties admirably and kicked for space well, while Ovett, who had an interception at the end of the game that almost turned into a try, did a good job standing in for cousin Chris.

We are thankful for Vince who came in to replace our eight man at the 49 second mark and played well reminding us that there is no substitute for experience.

The men who went to battle:

1- Jeff 'school boy' Lawrence
2- Scott 'expletive deleted' Warcup
3- Phillip 'bubbles' Corketon
4- Greg 'Sticky Icky Shrek' Gallant (Captain)
5- Ryan 'squirrel paw' Wild
6- 'Hudson' Mike Crowle
7- Cory 'I'm not going to nickname a guy that can squash me like a bug' White
8- Chris 'Queenstahn/ wedding crasher/gimp' Quinn
9- Fil 'how many consonants can you fit in' Dobrosielski
10-Scott 'the synonym for happy cowboy/ our fearless leader' Gill
11-Ovett 'mui thai chicken guy/ eternal replacement' Edwards
12-Paul 'Axe' Walker? (I may be wrong about his last name)
13- Tim '007 license to thrill' Brown
14- Nehru 'radio' Edwards
15- Matt 'Jamaican from the waist down' Heron
changes
16-Vince 'don't mess with me' Nickson to eight man
17- Dave 'the mexican spaniard' Torres (not sure if he got in)

Next week we have St Lambert at home at 1:30pm

What was dubbed the Oreo™ back line played well and brought forward a motion to have our club song changed to the following.

Theme from "Shaft"
Isaac Hayes

Shaft
Who's the black private dick
that's a sex machine to all the chicks?
(Shaft!)
You're damn right
Who is the man
that would risk his neck for his brother man?
(Shaft!)
Can ya dig it?
Who's the cat that won't cop out
when there's danger all about
(Shaft!)
Right on
You see this cat Shaft is a bad mother--
(Shut your mouth)
But I'm talkin' about Shaft
(Then we can dig it)
He's a complicated man
but no one understands him but his woman
(John Shaft)

Undefeated

BRFC is off to a good start this season with a 19-5 win over our cross town rivals.

Although it felt like an even game between even teams strategy and discipline won out. BRFC’s fly-half got us off to a good start with a penalty kick and kept us in our opponent’s end most of the game.

Sloppy conditions and stingy defence kept Ste. Anne’s from getting the ball wide although, they did manage some gains of their own with good strategic kicking from their experienced fly-half.

A very different Beaconsfield pack followed tradition and demonstrated their dominance in the scrums by scoring a push over try from the 5 meter line which was both the highlight of the game and of my life.

Radio had some powerful runs down the sideline and claims he was robbed of a try when his brother wouldn’t pass him the ball. He didn’t complain though, he got even by letting his brother get sent to the bin for his own foul.

Cousin Chris had a stormer of a game and was hopefully made to shoot the boot for his stellar performance.

Fil also rocked the house by going on some long runs right off the base of rucks and mauls.

Our substitute inside center filled in admirably and played well although everyone agrees he lacks Mike’s defensive skills and more importantly his school boyish good looks.

I don’t know who we play in two weeks but I imagine we’ll play a very conservative game in our opponent’s end and take advantage of their mistakes.
